Prairie Fire The burning of the tallgrass prairies of Kansas is a regular occurrence that revitalizes the landscape and allows new growth to flourish. In this image centered over the city of Alma in the flint hills, the charred landscape of the recently burned areas are evident as well as a couple of areas that were still burning when the image was acquired. The bright green areas are croplands planted in winter wheat. This image was acquired April 13, 2000 by the Landsat satellite The image is located at 38.46 degrees N latitude, -96.12 W longitude.
