Grand Bahama Island This Landsat satellite image features a colorful view
of the Grand Bahama Island off the eastern coast of Florida. The island,
the fourth largest of the Bahamas (96 miles long), gets its name from
the Spanish "gran bajamar" meaning "great shallows"
for its many flats and shoals in the waters off the island. These
shallows (light blue) to the north appear dramatically different from
the deep (dark blue) waters to the south. Also apparent are the light
puffy cumulus clouds that are commonly scattered across tropical skies.
On the island itself, most of the cities and resorts are on the south
(and more sheltered) side of the island, while the north edge is dominated
by brackish mangrove swamps (brown) as the freshwater uplands slowly
transition to saltwater. The image has a center location of 26.38.31 degrees north
latitude and 78.21.53 degrees west longitude. The print comes mounted on quality stretcher bars using a gallery style wrap (image wraps around the side) so that framing is optional. 36 x 15 inches = $125.00 contact TFI for different print size options and costs Actual print resolution is better than these graphics, see a full resolution sample |
