Outwash Along the western edge of China, near the Kyrgyzstan border and about 15 miles north of the city of Kashi, lies this dramatic view. The water draining from the numerous glaciers in the Tien Shan Mountains (to the north) leave a heavy silt load as the braided alluvial fans (blue–gray) head towards the Tarim Basin and the Takla Makan Desert to the southeast. This image was acquired by the Enhanced Landsat Thematic Mapper Satellite in September of 2001. The image is located at 39.55.36, degrees N latitude, 75.45.45 E longitude.
